Hello,
Just wanted to write a quick post to say that I haven't given up on this blog! Instead, I've had a very distracting combination of house guests (two weekends in a row) and the accompanying cleaning, laundering, and entertaining. After that, I allowed karma to guide me and became a house guest myself: I spent a very nice long weekend with a friend in San Francisco.
But now I am back, and am looking forward to a pleasant stretch of no guests, no travel, and time to do the things that I like to do, which includes writing this blog. At the moment I am jet-lagged and too tired to write much, but at least wanted to put in a quick "hello." Also, I've been reading an interesting book on the subway called Appetite for Change: How the Counterculture Took on the Food Industry. Maybe I'll comment more on it later, but one of the things that I notice the most so far is that many people connected with the eco movement that started in the late 60s were talking about exactly the same food issues that we are now, and proposing some of the same solutions, e.g. urban gardens. I don't know whether I should be happy that some of these things are finally happening, or sorry that these people have been saying the same things again and again for fifty years and so few bothered to listen!
